Conversations with People (CWP)
The concept of this project is simple. I meet with people from DC at a coffee shop, we speak about a particular topic (usually winds up about something else) and we take some photos. I'm more curious about telling simple stories.
Austin Graff | Being a father
Nothing really prepares you for parenthood. It’s one of those jobs that you need experience for, but none is really available. You can read all the books you want, get all the advice from others but try as you might, the only way you’re going to get experience is by being a parent. So how does one prepare for that daunting task? How many baby books should you in fact read? What other kind of pre planning is necessary? Why are there 12 months in a year? That last question isn’t relevant, but then again so are the others because no amount of planning can prepare you for the next 18 years, minimum....more.
Michelle Vassell | The pain of love
I’m not the kind of person to half ass my emotions for anyone. If I like you, I’m going to tell you straight up, hey I like you! I’m not going to play this BS game of, let’s see how much dirt I can get on someone before I tell them I like them, or date multiple people to see which one sticks. That all for me is disingenuous because it sets a precedent that you’re not that special. It tells the other person that, you’re just the one who stuck. It’s all a game and it’s a shitty game. I’m blunt because I have no time to half ass my feelings for anyone. That time could be spent making memories and doing things together....more
It’s getting easier to reach out to people for this project. That in itself is a major victory for me given that I am a very reserved person and not that fond of small talk. What I am a big fan of however, is making new friends. The main reason is because it is so damn hard to make genuine friends as an adult. There needs to be an adulting 101 book, How to Make friends edition. Then again, that makes it sound too formulaic, which is a total suck fest in my eyes. I guess it’s better the way I’m doing it... more.
Holly Ahrens | Northern Lights
I’m starting to see a trend with these conversations I have with people. They all start out with a topic in mind and then as it progresses, it becomes something different altogether. Today was no different. It was supposed to be about painting and the creative process because I was actually very intrigued about that process. I wanted to know how different the processes were from photography and where the overlap was. Instead, we began to talk about such interesting things as; Northern lights, Denmark, New York, DC, Kids (my desire for 4 girls came up) and so, so much more. It may not have been entirely about painting, but man I loved this conversation just as much as I love all the others....more
